Year 7

It is never too soon to start thinking about careers. As you discover new subjects and interests at secondary school, you will want to start to find out about careers in those areas.

  • CareerPilot is a one stop site for everything careers related. You can look up all sorts of career options and see qualifications skills and experience required for each role, as well as salary guides. You can find how to access this system on our Useful Websites page.

  • The SBL Careers Videos are updated with virtual sessions, assemblies and useful videos. All recordings from virtual sessions will be posted on here if and when available for those who missed the session or wish to check in their own time.

Year 8

Over year 8 you will want to really think about which subjects you are doing well in, and particularly enjoying ready for choices you can make during year 9.

Year 9 is all about pathways and choices for subjects in years 10 and 11. As well as information here, details of the pathways will be published on our year 9 site.

Year 10

In year 10 you will be starting your GCSE courses and planning and preparing for your work experience placement.

  • All students will participate in Work Experience in Year 11. Have a look at our Work Experience page for more detail on how to find placements, and use the placement finder. It must be arranged and confirmed before the summer holidays.

Year 11

This is a really important year! The main focus will of course be your exams, but you will also be doing your work experience in June. You should have your work experience arranged and confirmed by Friday 4th March 2022. You will also be choosing your 'next step' which should involve a lot of research and consideration.

Post 16

  • In Post 16, students will be starting their P16 courses and thinking about their 'next step' to University, an apprenticeship, gap year or employment.

  • Look at our Universities page to see the offers, entry requirements and do research before choosing.

  • The Apprenticeships section has lots of interesting, expert information on apprenticeships, especially for parents. Don't forget, there is a wide range of Higher Apprenticeships and Degree Apprenticeships now.

  • Post 16 students are also encouraged to take advantage of more Work Experience and volunteering throughout the year.
